OUR HISTORY

At Maison Gang, each piece we create tells the story of a second chance: a fabrics saved, know-how highlighted, a more sustainable future for fashion.

Léa and Thomas have always wanted to work in fashion. As soon as they set foot in this industry, they realize that it is one of the most polluting... So they decide to take action to change this sector that made them dream so much.

OUR APPROACH

They wonder how they could actually contribute to more responsible fashion.

Looking around: the obvious. Thomas' parents are blind makers.

In their partner workshop, they throw away 3 to 4 bins of offcuts of awning fabrics per week.

They then choose to revalue them and it is the properties of the awning fabric which give them the idea for the product.

Waterproof, anti-UV, anti-stain, awning fabric is the ideal material for making an ultra-resistant bucket hat hat.

In addition, the fabrics is Oeko-Tex certified (safe for health and the planet) and 100% French, placing their project in a short and local production circuit.

This is how Maison Gang was born.

Besides, Gang is them, at least their names, Gand and Gomes.

And Maison, a code borrowed from haute couture to symbolize the fact that at Maison Gang everything is done by hand.

THE GANG TIMELINE

We explain how we got here.

The starting point

“Dad, what do your partner workshops do with the leftover awning fabric?
Well I think it's thrown away, I'll give you their contact details so you can contact them."

The observation

Partner workshops throw away an average of 3 to 4 bins of awning fabric scraps per week. For us, it was obvious! We had to recycle it and find THE product that would make perfect use of this fabric.

The product

After several months of reflection, we did a lot of research and we came up with a product idea: THE bucket hat. Indeed, this product was coming back into fashion and met the multiple properties of the awning fabric: anti-UV and waterproof. For us, the bucket hat is a product that stands out and is fun. Which fit perfectly with the artistic direction we wanted to do for our brand. But we didn't know yet, how were we going to name our brand?

The prototype

For six months, we worked on the pattern of the bucket hat. We wanted the shape of the bucket hat to be neither a fisherman's bucket hat nor a clown's hat. After making 3 prototypes, we found the product that suited us (aesthetic andamp; robust)

Trademark filing

Alongside the prototype, we were still looking for our brand name. We wanted our brand to be fun, colourful, recognisable and above all, for its name to be easily remembered by people.
In a flash of genius, we said why not call it Gang?

The official launch

After working for months on the launch of the brand, it's official, we decide to open our site and market our first bucket hats.
